Evolution of Bumblebee Wings
Christian et al. (2012) found that the growth of bumblebee wings from juvenile to adult stages increased with increasing levels of CO2. From this study it is proposed that bumblebee wings evolved as a method of gas exchange and possibly relates to the gill hypothesis.
